14th August 2018
Dear Parents and 4AW Students,
Welcome! My name is Mr. Alan Ward and I am your child’s fourth grade teacher. I enjoyed meeting many of you yesterday at the Meet the Teacher class visit.
This week begins a brand new school year in a brand new campus and I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all of you! As always, the start of a school year holds the promise of new discovery and learning, as well as the prospect of personal growth in many areas. It is my belief that positive interaction between teacher and parent strengthens the feeling of support all children need for success in school. My goal is to create an atmosphere of open communication regarding your child's progress and behavior, both at home and in school.
HOME/SCHOOL COMMUNICATION, NEWSLETTERS & EMAIL
Your child will be using a home learning diary, which should be found in your child’s backpack. This diary will be used to write down home learning assignments, important dates to remember, and other useful information. Please encourage the use of the diary at home to help your child with organization skills.
You can expect regular communication from me, to keep you abreast of happenings in 4AW. These will include reminders, curricular updates, classroom happenings, etc. I will be using the class blog to communicate with you on a weekly basis. If there is something specific to your child, I will contact you by email on your Panther Apps ISKL email. Please contact me on my PantherApps school email account at: award@iskl.edu.my. I may not respond immediately to emails, but I will always try to respond to your emails within 24 hours. The class blog will be up and running after Open House, as this will be the time when I can show you the site.
HOME LEARNING
Over the first few weeks of the school year, your child will be asked to spend the majority of their home learning time reading and exploring books. We will begin a home learning routine after Open House and I will discuss this with you on the evening to help you understand ISKL’s home learning policy and the expectations in 4AW.
If you have any concerns about your child’s transition to grade 4, or any questions that haven’t been covered in this brief newsletter, please do not hesitate to email me or drop by the classroom. In the meantime, if I have not met you already, I look forward to meeting you at Open House!
I am very excited for the year ahead and I know by working together with you and your child, we can have a very productive, successful and happy year.
Kindest Regards,
Alan Ward
